November continues to bring good news for 9 of our destinations, and Cambodia joined Thailand as Southeast Asias first destinations to reopen tourism to fully-vaccinated travelers. Thailand is now fully reopening to vaccinated travelers who have spent at least 21 days in any of 63 COVID-safe destinations listed under a new test and go program. Singapore has recently expanded its Vaccinated Travel Lanes (VTL) Scheme to allow fully vaccinated travelers who have spent at least 14 days in Australia, Brunei, Canada, Denmark, France, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, South Korea, Spain, Switzerland, United Kingdom, or the United States to enter the country via designated VTL flights and to explore the country without quarantine following their arrival with the result of their PCR tests. Singapore welcomes fully-vaccinated travelers to tour the country without any prior departure or upon arrival tests, according to Singapores tourism board. Fully vaccinated travelers are not required to take tests prior to their arrival, and are allowed to travel freely across Thailand. The Philippines welcomes vaccinated travelers, including those from the United States, and requires that those vaccinated present evidence of negative PCR tests conducted within 48 hours prior to their departure, or evidence of a negative antigen laboratory-based test conducted within 24 hours prior to departure, according to the government. Unvaccinated travelers may avoid quarantine if they arrive with a negative PCR test for COVID-19 taken within 72 hours of departure. Show Source Texts
Before flying, travelers, regardless of their vaccination status, will require a negative test taken within 72 hours, and they will be subjected to a 14-day government-run facility quarantine when they arrive. Anyone eligible for entry into Taiwan, regardless of citizenship or vaccination status, will have to submit a negative PCR test taken within 72 hours of departure, submit a history of travel and contacts to the person eligible for entry into Taiwan, and be quarantined for 14 days back home. Travelers are allowed into Vietnam, according to Vietnams government portal, but they are required to arrive with evidence of either a negative PCR test for COVID-19 taken within 72 hours of their departure, or a negative rapid antigen test taken within 24 hours of departure. Visits are restricted and conditional – proof of negative COVID tests and/or vaccination status may be required, and in some cases, quarantine measures are still enforced. Show Source Texts
Canada joined the United States by allowing travel to some destinations, but also falls within the restricted and conditional travel category. Of the open borders, travelers entering those countries are expected to undergo everything from self-quarantine to submission of a health questionnaire to a negative COVID-19 test. Business travelers are allowed in from some countries, but they will have to be isolated at a special facility, be tested often, and yet allowed to meet with locals safely. Any traveler who has visited the United Kingdom, Brazil, South Africa, India, Pakistan, Nepal, or Phillipines within 21 days after arriving in a country other than Hong Kong will be refused entry. The blanket ban on all but essential travel has been lifted, with certain countries being allowed. Singapore and Thailand are planning to revise their reopening plans in January, and we are hopeful travel will be restored by the start of 2022. Overall, the travel outlook in Asia is starting to look really good, particularly for the first quarter of 2022, with all but a handful of destinations expected to achieve or surpass 70% immunization. At the same time, India has emerged as the outlier of the region, quickly passing the 30 million cumulative confirmed cases mark in June, leading to advisories and travel bans from several countries including the United States and United Kingdom. Turkey, which is located at the western Asian-European border, was one of the first countries to lift Turkeys travel restrictions, but has since had to initiate more stringent curfews and restrictions on travel – with a key caveat being that these apply only to residents, and not travelers, who still enter and leave the country freely. Most countries in Southeast Asia — including Singapore, Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia, Vietnam, and the Philippines — have stopped requiring travelers with full immunity to get a COVID-19 test prior to traveling.
