The Federation of Hotel & Restaurant Associations of India (FHRAI), recognized as the third-largest hospitality association worldwide, recently hosted a dynamic three-day convention in Goa. This significant gathering brought together industry leaders, professionals, and key stakeholders to explore the future trajectory of the hospitality sector. Centered on the theme “Tourism @2047: Invincible,” this year’s convention emphasized resilience, innovation, and sustainability as the pillars for the industry’s long-term vision.

The event offered a range of enriching sessions, valuable networking opportunities, and a celebration of industry excellence. A major highlight was the keynote address by Puneet Chhatwal, Managing Director and CEO of Indian Hotels Company Limited (IHCL). Mr. Chhatwal’s insights into leadership and strategic growth served as an inspiration, underscoring his dedication to advancing standards within the hospitality field.

Spanning from October 16 to 18, the convention was officially opened by Shri Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, the Honorable Minister for Tourism, with Dr. Pramod Sawant, Chief Minister of Goa, in attendance. The event welcomed approximately 800 delegates, all keen on discussing India’s tourism and hospitality future. D.S. Advani, Chairman of the Convention Organizing Committee, and Pradeep Shetty, President of FHRAI, delivered the welcoming remarks.

Additionally, Honorable Minister for Road Transport & Highways, Nitin Gadkari, shared his insights through a video message. The event also included addresses by Ms. Mugdha Sinha, Director General of Tourism, and Suman Billa, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Tourism.

A central highlight of the convention was the release of an in-depth report from FHRAI’s newly founded Centre of Excellence, focused on “Ease of Doing Business” within the hospitality sector. Established in 2024 to enhance FHRAI’s advocacy initiatives, this Centre of Excellence serves as a dedicated research arm aimed at advancing knowledge, fostering innovation, and promoting excellence in tourism and hospitality. Designed to function as an industry think tank, it conducts research, generates insights, and cultivates strategic relationships with policymakers to drive meaningful industry change.

Developed with input from over 500 stakeholders, including hotel owners, operators, regulators, and industry associations, the report emphasizes the hospitality sector’s critical role in economic growth and job creation. It highlights key challenges and offers actionable recommendations for improving the business landscape, such as regulatory reform, better funding access, and expanded workforce training initiatives to build resilience and sustainable growth.

Over three days, the convention hosted discussions on market trends, customer experience, digital transformation, and sustainable practices. Panel discussions led by industry experts sparked dynamic conversations, encouraging attendees to adopt innovative approaches in their work. Awards ceremonies on the first and final days celebrated excellence, honoring contributions and achievements across the hospitality industry.

A tribute was paid to influential figures in the sector, with the Lifetime Achievement Award posthumously awarded to the late Mr. Prithvi Singh Oberoi, former Executive Chairman of EIH Limited, for his impactful leadership. Additionally, three industry icons were inducted into the Hall of Fame: Dr. Ajit B. Kerkar, former Chairman and Managing Director of the Taj Group of Hotels; the late Capt. C. P. Krishnan Nair, Founder Chairman of The Leela Group; and Mr. Lalit Suri, Founder Chairman of The Lalit Suri Hospitality Group. On Awards Night, a range of accolades recognized exceptional practices in service, management, and innovation.

The 54th FHRAI Annual Convention was a resounding success, creating meaningful connections and setting a forward-looking vision for the hospitality sector.
