SLOVAKIA TRAVEL, the official national tourism organization responsible for promoting Slovakia as a travel destination, has officially joined the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC).

This milestone strengthens Slovakia’s commitment to sustainability, aligning the country’s tourism development with global best practices in responsible travel.

Slovakia’s Sustainable Tourism Vision

According to Slovakia’s Ministry of Transport and Construction, which oversees national tourism initiatives, Slovakia is dedicated to preserving its natural and cultural heritage while fostering eco-friendly tourism growth.

The country boasts:

• Nine national parks protecting diverse ecosystems.
• Over 14,000 km of marked hiking trails, ensuring sustainable nature access.
• UNESCO-listed virgin beech forests, among Europe’s largest.
• 1,600+ mineral and thermal springs, supporting wellness tourism.

By partnering with the GSTC, SLOVAKIA TRAVEL aims to implement a national sustainability program, integrating eco-tourism, conservation, and responsible tourism practices.

• Geoparks Initiative – Slovakia’s Banská Bystrica, Banská Štiavnica, and Novohrad-Nógrád geoparks protect geological heritage and promote environmental education.
• Ekotopfilm / Envirofilm Festival – An annual government-supported event showcasing sustainability-themed films and forums in Bratislava and regional capitals.
• Spring Vegan Feast in Bratislava – A plant-based festival promoting sustainable food choices at the Old Market Hall.
